Fox + eider = sheep

I ordered some different types of wool to try (spinning), for instance Coburg Fox (Coburger Fuchs) and eiderwool (Eiderwolle). Surprisingly, they turned out to be not a fox and an eider but sheep ☺

Coburg Fox Sheep is a german breed with golden to brown wool. Very nice colour indeed.

Я заказала по клочку всякой разной шерсти для прядения, на пробу, и в том числе мне прислали Кобургскую Лису и "гагачью шерсть". Но, как выяснилось, это вовсе не лисица и не птица, а вполне себе овечки ☺ 

Кобургская лисья порода овец отличается своим окрасом - от золотистого до коричневого. Действительно, очень приятный оттенок.

And what about eider?


Eiderwool is a common name for the wool of dike sheep in Northern Germany (mostly German White-faced meat sheep) who are grazing the dikes to keep the sea from flooding the country. How? By fastening the ground with their hooves and straightening the root system of grass by mowing grass. I'm glad to know that in some fields ☺animals are still better workers than machines.

А "гагачья шерсть"  - это собирательное название для шерсти разных овец (в основном, немецкой беломордой мясной породы), которые пасутся на дамбах Северного моря, защищая их от эрозии тем, что утаптывают почву, а также "стригут" траву, которая реагирует на это усилением своей корневой системы.

Мне было приятно узнать, что кое-где животные справляются лучше любой техники!
